With only 51,100 square kms. of land extension which is only 0.03% of the planet’s surface, Costa Rica holds about 6% of all living forms that inhabit the planet. Up to now, in this small territory, more than nine thousand species of plants have been identified, eight hundred and fifty of birds, two hundred of mammals, and about thirty-five thousand of insects…and we are still counting. San José is the capital city and the most populated province.
Located between two oceans, Costa Rica is a tropical country with a complex geography, several climatic conditions, and different types of forests that range from the dry tropical forest all the way to the highlands. In general, temperatures range from 14 to 22 Celsius. Costa Rica, as a whole, does not have definite seasonal temperatures. Each region maintains its own relatively stable temperature all year long with slight changes during its “summer” (dry season) and “winter” (wet season). The dry season is typically during the months of December to April and the wet season from May to November, with the exception of the Atlantic coast when it is usually dryer during March and April and again, during September and October.
Costa Rica has a population of approximately 5,000,000 inhabitants.
