San Lucas Island

99 $

San Lucas Island

From San José and Puntarenas  | Duration: 12 hours

Embark a yacht for a stunning tour of the islands in the Gulf of Nicoya while being transported to the National Wildlife Shelter of San Lucas.

  • San Lucas is a small Island (just under 500 hectares) located in the Gulf of Nicoya. For over 100 years, the Island was home to a brutal prison which finally closed its doors in 1992. Now San Lucas is a National Wildlife Shelter populated by Howler monkeys (Congos), white tail deer, many bats, non poisonous snakes, iguanas, turkeys, skunks, and anteaters. Also the main building was declared part of the Architectural Historical Heritage of Costa Rica in 2002.

  • Our tour includes a short sea journey on a lovely Motor Yacht as you sail between many of the Islands in the Gulf of Nicoya. You will take a tour of the old prison buildings with a knowledgeable bilingual guide and hike a short nature trail through a secondary, tropical, dry forest before spending an afternoon at a beautiful beach.

  • This is a very special outing where you may enjoy some of Costa Rica’s history, the tranquility of a secluded Island and its magnificent views, a walk through tropical dry forest, and enjoy a beautiful beach, all in one day, one you will remember for years.
