At the foot of the Turrialba Volcano we find the most important archaeological site in Costa Rica. The Guayabo National Monument has about 15 hectares of which only a small area has been excavated.

Its roadway that has withstood the passage of centuries, its subway aqueduct and its mounds, give us a precise idea of the advanced civilization that occupied this city between 700 and 1300 AD.

The monument is nestled in a lush jungle of premontane forest, which allows us to enjoy both the buildings and nature.
